Who is your sporting hero?
Robert Dipierdominico, also known as the Big Dipper. Former player with The Hawthorn Football Club (Aussie Rules outfit) in the 80’s and early 90’s. What a champion if I ever saw one.
How do you combine work and playing/training?
With great difficulty I must admit, even though Ulster Bank have superb to me in allowing me to pursue my intercounty hurling career for as long as I can.
What’s your number one training tip?
Make sure you turn up on time.
What do you enjoy/hate the most about pre-season training?
I love the buzz of being back training again after a good winter’s break but the cold, dark & wet nights can be demoralising at times.
When did you make your county debut?
1996 against Limerick in the 1st round of the Munster Senior Hurling Championship. I’m still a spring chicken yet!
What’s the most memorable match you’ve played in?
That’s easy. The 2004 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final against Kilkenny because it’s the only game I’ve only played well in Croke Park.
What, if any, other sports do you play?
Gaelic Football. I try to play with my local GAA club whenever I can but to be honest I rarely get time for anything else because Hurling takes up most of my time.
Tell us one thing people might not know about you?
I’m an Everton supporter true and true. C’mon the Toffees.
How long have you been working for Ulster Bank?
Joined the organisation in May 2004.
What’s the best thing about playing for your county?
The friendships I’ve developed over the years with former and current team mates. You can’t buy that.
What’s your favourite away venue and why?
Without a shadow of a doubt Semple Stadium, Thurles. It’s been a home from home to a lot of Cork Teams over the decades. Cork followers say it’s worth 3 points to Cork before the ball is thrown in!
Who have your toughest opponents been?
DJ Carey (Kilkenny), Henry Shefflin (Kilkenny) & Dan Shanahan (Waterford).
Who’s the best player you’ve played with/against?
Best player I’ve played with is Brian Corcoran (Cork) now retired. Best player I’ve played against would have to be Henry Shefflin (Kilkenny).
What is your motto in life?
Go hard or go home!
